Child Support

The Massachusetts Child Support Guidelines were developed with the idea that both parents have a financial obligation to support their children.

The issue of child support is often the most contentious issue in family law cases. Either the parent who receives support feels he or she is being cheated out of what is needed or what their children deserve, or the parent who pays the support feels he or she is paying too much or they can not afford the ordered amount.  The Guidelines do not always work or promote the family’s financial situation. In those cases, the parties can agree to a different amount suited to their specific circumstances.

Mediation with our trained mediator provides a safe place where parents can openly discuss their positions and concerns and work toward a reasonable and feasible child support order.
